1. Sure! If your careful and not careless. If you think about it your not actually putting the basses actual weight on your line but the weight they pull. We use 4 pound line in more open areas here on ks and have caught 6 pounders but we were careful. Remember the smaller the line the better chance the bass won't see it but the better chance you won't ever see the bass on land:). Hope this helps

2. if the bass doesn't pull you in,you might land it if the reel is adjusted to allow it to be played to exhaustion, then you'd have to revive it,then register it on official scales and sample the line and submit the application along with two witnesses' affidavits, and wait for a decision.good luck! AWful thin for a record to be done with, but possible.

3. This site is five years old, and it only gives 4, 12, and 20 pound records, but it's more to the point than the answers you've gotten: for Florida, 4 lb line: 7 lb 0 oz; 12 lb line: 8 lb 1 oz; 20 lb line: 8 lb 11 oz.

That's surprising to me -- I'd have thought someone would have managed a 10+ pounder in Florida, at least on 20 pound line... but not all big fish get turned in for records, and probably most of the bigger ones are released after a quick photo and weighing on a hand scale. (California shows 17, 19, and 21 pounders.)
